Brotherhood of eternal love :

Our story begins in 1967 in Laguna Beach, California. At that time Laguna was a refuge for artists and a liberal oasis in the otherwise conservative Orange County. Every summer the population of this small town grew dramatically due to the migration of tourists who came here attracted by the magnificent beaches, contemporary art festival and the beautiful waterfront walkway that ran along the Pacific Coast Highway. When he came off-season, however, all retired and Laguna went back to being a sleepy and peaceful coastal town of southern California. Following the famous Summer of Love, hordes of young Freaks invaded, much to the chagrin of the local bourgeoisie, the city and, once over the summer, they remained in the country, contrary to what they used to do the traditional tourists. And ‘within this environment that the germs of the Brotherhood of eternal love were thrown; here, this group of idealistic visionaries turned into something never seen before, something that was halfway between religion, against the surf culture and international drug smuggling. A fusion atypical and revolutionary who gave birth to a kind of mysticism that Timothy Leary in 1976 called “A spiritual mysticism characteristic of Laguna beach …. mysticism I might call a surf Mysticism “.

It all started with John Griggs, a former wrestling champion of the Anaheim Union High School. Griggs had been a member of the street gang the Street Sweepers – a group of boys who went around on machines rigged and drugster- earning a reputation for hard. After college he began to experiment with all kinds of drugs in circulation and, soon, ended in a matter of petty crime. At the end of 1964 Griggs heard about a new drug, which he extolled the great effects; the drug was LSD. Intrigued by what John, along with some friends, burst into the home of a Hollywood producer and robbed him of his escort. Made the first trip lysergic Griggs had what can be called a spiritual awakening. Then he stopped to make use of hard drugs, repudiated all forms of violence and became, in the words of Leary, “The holiest man that ever walked on the soil of this country.”

With time, many of the followers of Griggs walked away, but many others were related to him and the strange kind of life philosophy that propuganva; and it was within this narrow circle of people who formed the nucleus of what would become brotherhood of eternal love. This group of boys began to devote himself not only to their spiritual advancement through travel with the ‘LSD, but also inspired by the thought of Leary, believe that the acid was a revolutionary instrument for the mind of the human being; a key to the elevation of consciousness with the ability to transform the world. In 1966, Griggs visited Timothy Leary in Millbrook and returned to the lagoon with a stack dipreghiere psychedelic and with the idea of ​​transforming the group – still no name-in a kind of religious association nonprofit. That summer, John and some members of the core group moved to Modjeska Canyon, in a stone house that became the first church official.
